STREF Global — the STEM Teachers Rewards and Empowerment Foundation is a Nigerian education-focused purpose driven nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives, dignity, capacity and impact of teachers while contributing to stronger, safer and more effective learning environments.
We believe that the quality of education can never be separated from the quality of support we give those who teach.
Behind every doctor, engineer, entrepreneur, scientist, lawyer, artist, public servant and leader is a teacher who, at some point, helped them discover what was possible.
Yet, across communities, many teachers continue to carry an enormous responsibility with limited resources, recognition, professional support and opportunities for growth.
STREF exists because we believe teachers deserve better.

STREF was born from a simple but powerful conviction: if we want to transform education, we must first pay attention to the people who make education happen every day.
The teacher who arrives early.
The teacher who stays late.
The teacher who buys learning materials with personal money.
The teacher who notices when a child is struggling and chooses to care.
The teacher who inspires a student to believe in themselves.
The teacher who keeps showing up even when the work is difficult.
These stories are everywhere, but too often they remain unseen.
STREF was established to help change that narrative. We are building a movement that recognizes teachers not merely as employees within the education system, but as education heroes, nation builders, mentors, innovators and catalysts for change.
Our work brings together teachers, school leaders, education stakeholders, businesses, organizations, philanthropists, public institutions and individuals who believe that supporting teachers is an investment in the future of society.
We commenced in 2020 with our first STEM Teachers Awards and Gala which has now evolved to STREF Education Heroes Award and many wonderful initiatives for Teachers and Schools.
To build a society with visionary and passionate Teachers who are highly valued, well-supported and continuously empowered to shape the present and the future.
To reward, recognize, empower and equip teachers, while creating platforms that promote professional growth, collaboration, innovation, wellbeing and meaningful participation in the transformation of education with special focus on Teachers and Schools.
At STREF, we believe that appreciation should go beyond celebration. That is why our approach goes beyond giving awards or organizing annual events. We seek to create practical and sustainable opportunities through which teachers can experience support in ways that matter to their professional and personal lives.
Our work is built around four interconnected pillars.
Through initiatives such as the STREF Education Heroes Award, teacher appreciation campaigns, recognition platforms and community-led celebrations, we shine a light on educators whose work deserves to be seen and celebrated. Because recognition can restore morale, inspire excellence and remind teachers that their work matters.
Through conferences, workshops, training programmes, forums and professional development initiatives, we help educators stay informed, connected and equipped for the changing demands of education.
STREF creates spaces where educators can connect with one another, exchange ideas, share experiences, solve problems and learn from their peers. Through platforms such as the STREF Super Teachers Community, Teacher-to-Teacher Forum and School Executives Forum, we are building a growing network of education professionals who can learn from one another and collectively strengthen the profession.
Through initiatives such as our teacher-focused outreach programmes, appreciation campaigns, resource support and other targeted interventions, STREF seeks to put meaningful assistance directly into the hands of teachers and education communities that need it.
